Sessions

One-to-one work, in person and online

Three distinct doorways into private practice with Vinay: Gestalt therapy for personal change, Career Decision Coaching for vocational clarity, and supervision for managers and therapists. Sessions run by Zoom across timezones, and in person when teaching schedules permit.

Gestalt therapy

Therapy that asks who you are, and lets you live it

Private sessions for individuals, couples and families. The work is practical, relational, and oriented toward the life you are actually trying to lead — not toward a diagnosis.

A handful of working principles sit underneath everything: change comes from contacting who you already are; genuine dialogue makes that contact possible; and the difficult parts can be done with support, sometimes even with humour.

What a session involves

  • · The concern you arrived with
  • · Feelings as they surface
  • · Family, culture and history
  • · The places you tend to get stuck
  • · Organising beliefs and core needs
  • · Your personal style of moving through life
  • · Questions of meaning and purpose
  • · Unfinished business
  • · Experiments with new ways of being
  • · The dialogue between us, and what it reveals

First session

A mutual check: can we work together? We sketch the bigger picture and the issue you bring.

Short focus

Typically around six sessions to look at an issue with any real depth. A single session can work for a very specific question.

Deeper work

Entrenched patterns, significant trauma, or turning around a long relationship usually ask for six months to a year of consistent work.

The Gestalt orientation

Gestalt is an approach to authentic living grounded in present-moment awareness. It treats therapy as a psychology of growth rather than illness. The client is the expert on their own experience; the therapist's task is to make genuine contact and to support the paradoxical truth that change arrives when we stop trying to be someone else.

Career Decision Coaching™

Two clear career paths, in a day

Career Decision Coaching is a four-hour intensive that Vinay designed and has refined over decades. It combines a systematic exploration of who you are with the creative work of naming what you actually want to do next.

The session is guaranteed: if you leave without two viable career paths in hand, there is no fee.

The five stages of moving toward an inspiring career

What you walk away with

  1. 1. Two ideal career paths drawn from what you most enjoy doing.
  2. 2. Clarity on how career fits inside the bigger picture of your life.
  3. 3. A comprehensive personal profile.
  4. 4. A workbook of records, exercises and bonus reading.
  5. 5. A practical outline of next steps toward employment in the chosen direction.

What the session covers

History

Family and personal experience of work, values, dreams, and the limits and freedoms already in play.

Lifework planning

New ways of weaving work, education and leisure together — the skill-tree model and what quality of life actually asks for.

Aptitudes

A three-letter aptitude code that points to families of work you can test future roles against.

Approaches to choosing

Expert advice, occupational categories, experimentation, profiles, skills, income and conscience — used as lenses, not formulas.

The three-skill model

Identifying your strongest skills across each of three dimensions.

Naming the career

Turning skills and knowledges into job titles and fields, with search questions for further research.

Finding the role

The five targeting questions, the "swiss cheese" fit, contacts, research and interview strategy.

Take-home pack

A full record of the process and outcomes is emailed to you, with reference materials for follow-up.

Career Decision Coaching is not always the right tool. If the obstacle in your way is psychological, the Gestalt therapy process above is likely a better fit; for skill-building, a course of coaching may suit. Get in touch and we'll work out together which doorway makes sense.

Supervision & professional services

A Gestalt eye on the work you do with others

Supervision is available for therapists, counsellors, coaches, managers and others whose work is essentially relational. The orientation is Gestalt: awareness, authenticity, empowerment and a careful attention to the relationship in front of you.

Two formats for therapists

Reporting supervision is the familiar form — conversation about cases, client management and the dynamics of the work.

Direct supervision watches you working: by video, audio or live, with feedback afterwards. It is more to organise and worth it — the quality of learning is in a different league.

Either format can run one-to-one or in a small group. Groups can also work directly, using co-participants as the live material.

Managers & human-services leaders

Gestalt principles applied to your particular setting: decisions, team dynamics, the cost of the role, and the quality of your presence in it.

Speaking & consulting

Keynotes, lectures and longer organisational engagements grounded in authentic-management philosophy and systemic approaches. Get in touch with the brief.

Intake & rates

Before a first session

Every new client reads and signs an informed-consent document relevant to the kind of work you are starting — therapy, supervision, couples work, adolescent work, executive coaching or Career Decision Coaching. Rates are tiered by country, so the figure you pay reflects local context rather than a single global price. We'll send you the right paperwork and the applicable rate once we know which service fits.

The simplest first step is an email to contact@learngestalt.com with a few lines about what you're working with, or use the contact page. We'll come back with consent documents, rates and a time that lines up across your timezone and ours.
